Els looks forward to President’s Cup

Submitted on September 26th, 2007 by News Editor

It’s the Presidents Cup this week, with the International team taking on the US. I’m flying out Monday morning to join team Captain Gary Player and the rest of the guys at Royal Montreal Golf Club in Canada, which is actually the oldest golf club in North America. This is the first time the Presidents Cup has visited Canada and we’ll be playing on Royal Montreal’s new-look Blue course, which has undergone significant renovation by the famous golf course architect Rees Jones. Seeing the two teams on paper I think it is shaping-up to be a very close contest.

Our team line-up is: Rory Sabbatini, Retief Goosen, Trevor Immelman, Geoff Ogilvy, Adam Scott, Stuart Appleby, Vijay Singh, Angel Cabrera, KJ Choi, Mike Weir and Nick O’Hern. The US team looks like this: Jim Furyk, Zach Johnson, Phil Mickelson, David Toms, Tiger Woods, Woody Austin, Stewart Cink, Lucas Glover, Charles Howell III, Hunter Mahan, Steve Stricker and Scott Verplank.

Tiger Woods on PGA’s new drug policy: penalties should be stiff

Submitted on September 25th, 2007 by News Editor

"Given our reputation in our sport, how honorable our sport is and always has been and will continue to be, I think that the penalty has got to be somewhat significant," Tiger said on Monday.

We all have Gary Player to thank for effectively putting the PGA's feet to the fire, with his unsubstantiated claim that he had personal knowledge of one player (if not several players) who was taking performance-enhancing drugs.

In our steroids era, it wouldn't surprise me at all if Gary Player was right. The pressure to hit the long ball today is so great.
