Wernddu Golf Club

On a wild and windy Saturday morning, 46 entries for the 2 Day Championship prepared to Tee Off. Only 2 players played better than their handicaps, both players with a 5 handicap,  N. Taylor (who parred the course) and R. Lawson shooting 3 under his handicap. The end of Day 1 had 3 players close to one another with the field being held up by S Davies in 46 position.

3. M. Powell - 75 Gross (73 Nett)

The second day had players teeing off in reverse order and the leaders having a ‘lie-in’ and teeing off at 10.20am. First group out (Tee off at 8.40am) included S. Davies, D. Moyle and S. Donnelly, so no lie-in for these boys. With the course playing a little tougher due to the windy conditions again, only a handful of players bettered the previous days score and the winners are as follows :-

The top 16 ranked players over the 2 days qualify for the Club Championship.

This competition is a team based event with the best 3 of 4 scores on each hole to count. Played on a clear and bright Sunday the team event began with over 15 teams competing for the glory. The eventual winners with very commendable 125 pts are as follows :-

1. The team of :- D. Wall, D. Edwards, G. Foulkes, S. Wenham - 125 pts

2. The team of :- T. Jones, B. Lewis, N. Howells, I. Jayne - 118 pts

Into May already and the competition is heating up. Playing with full handicap allowance this stableford competition has been well seated in the May competitions for many a year. The day started damp but the club golf stars were not deterred. With a hint on sunshine breaking through the clouds Luke Ralph done it again. Like parred the course playing off a 5 handicap (but not for much longer, newest Category 1 golfer) and romped home to win a head, neck and full body of a horse with 41 points. The nearest rival at 38 points below and 5 players sharing 3rd place on 36 point.

Should this competition be renamed to Luke Ralph does it again !!!!
